My Video Games Crushes

A friend of mine suggested that I write a post about some of the women in video games I find most attractive, and I thought it was a good idea.

Anju from Majora's MaskMy first big video game crush that I really remember well was Anju, from Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.  In the game, she runs an inn, and the quest that revolves around her requires you to reunite her with her lost fiance, Kafei.  She’s an extremely sweet young woman, and, what I think really did it for me, she’s a bit of a bird with a downed wing.  She’s obviously capable.  She does run an inn, after all, but she still has a few flaws and fears that are just so endearingly adorable that you want to give her a long hug.  She’s overly apologetic.  She’s not a very good cook.  She worries that her friend is more attractive to her fiance than she is.  But she’s also loyal, devoted, hard-working, kind, and, even when the moon is bearing down upon the city, she’s willing to stay with Kafei, and greet the new day together.  Maybe I’m a romantic, but qualities like that are the ones that really appeal to me.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is Samus Aran.

Samus Aran from MetroidI wanted to go with this photo from Nintendo Power, because honestly, I dislike the Zero Suit style.  Look at her.Zero Suit Samus  Does she look 6’3″ and 198 pounds to you?  Does she look like she slaughters aliens all day?  Why did she request a suit with special little pockets for her tits to be vacuum-sealed into?  Why is her hair style a collection of things to be violently grabbed and yanked when her profession is fighting unscrupulous individuals who would be happy to kill her?  I mean, I suppose she could be trying to distract her enemies, but they tend to be members of different species, so it’d probably have the same effect as a cow in a corset.

But I digress.

The Samus Aran I like is the badass bounty hunter who kicks ass.  She’s strong, independent, and able to handle anything you can throw at her.  Maybe it’s just because I’ve been marathoning through season 3 of Games of Thrones lately, but she reminds me a lot of Brienne of Tarth.  If they ever make a live-action Metroid movie, and to be honest, I hope they don’t, they should cast Gwendoline Christie as Samus, don’t you think?

Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth from Game of ThronesA more recent crush I’ve acquired is on Lilly Satou, from the game Katawa Shoujo.  It’s really more of a visual novel, but it’s amazing, and it’s free, so I would recommend at least giving it a try.  It’ll affect your emotions more than you might think.  The game takes place at a special school for disabled students, and each of the five young women you can romance has a certain disability.

Lilly Satou from Katawa ShoujoLilly is blind, but she doesn’t let it define her.  When the main character keeps apologizing because of his own disability, she sharply rebukes him, asking him whether she’s ever apologized for her blindness, even once.  She’s very caring, beautiful, and kind-hearted.  Plus, she wants to be a teacher, which is always something to be admired.

Another one of the girls, Hanako, used to be my favorite, but I think Lilly is edging her out as I replay through the entire game for a minor side project I’m working on.  If I had to say what I like most about her, I think it would be her big heart.  She cares about everyone.  She cares about Hanako.  She cares about Hisao.  She cares about the students in her class.  She really looks out for everyone, and it’s hard not to admire someone like that.  And then the way she finally opens up to Hisao and tells him how afraid she was to lose him…  You just want to hug her and hold her and tell her everything will be alright.  Out of the five girls, she strikes me as the best match.

Shiki Misaki from The World Ends With YouThe World Ends With You is one of my favorite video games.  The characters are interesting, the art design is unique, the combat system is innovative, the music is awesome; it’s just an excellent package.  It can get tedious at times, grinding for levels or pins, but you certainly don’t need to do all that much grinding if all you want to do is complete the game.  Part of the game is that you’re always playing with a partner, and Shiki’s your first.  I ended up growing really attached to her, and when she disappears for a while, I was legitimately worried about her fate.

It’s harder to say why I especially liked Shiki.  I mean, she’s helpful and positive.  I guess what I like is her passion.  She’s very much interested in making clothing, and I always admire when someone has a hobby that they’re passionate about.  She seems like she’d be a great friend, as well.  One thing I like about her is her dedication to helping people.  Even when their own lives are on the line, she still insists on helping others.

Cecile from Metal Gear Solid Peace WalkerAnd since five is a good number, my last one will be Cécile, Cosima Caminades from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.  It’s all about her voice.  DamnJust listen to her.  She has the cutest French accent I’ve ever heard, and the way she meows is oddly arousing.

She’s a bit of a French chauvinist, but it’s usually played for laughs.  She’s happy to claim Picasso and fine food for France, but when others point out that other countries can lay claim to them, she gets a bit huffy.  She is in a bad situation, though, so I can understand her being temperamental.  I doubt I’d be all that happy if I were abducted…  She’s absolutely stunning, though, with a very uninhibited, almost Bond Girl personality, and a lovely French accent.  What’s not to love?

Well, those are my top five video game crushes.  Who are yours?
